Ahmad Khawaja, the chef behind London’s famous The Bridge, had already shown signs of becoming the man he was going to be at an early age. He showed interests in the kitchen as early as he was 4 years old. He was always behind the counter mixing things and helping his mother cook their family meals for dinner. At the age of 14, his mother passed away after suffering from chronic kidney failure. Ahmad, however, was able to get a copy of his mother’s delicious and homemade dishes from curries to pastas. His mother was actually his source of inspiration which prompted him to go to culinary school.

Working double jobs at an early age allowed him to attend London South Bank University where he later earned his degree. Ahmad claims that it was not easy working as a news delivery boy in the morning, then working in a local fast food chain for him to be able to cope up with his tuition and expenses. Also, he worked an extra job during the summer as the summer time allowed him to earn more. Still, it paid off in the end.

After graduation, Ahmad Khawaja worked on a cruise ship named Princess Alexandra MV to pay back all his loans when he was still in university. It was also a good way to start his reputation as a chef. After 3 years, he quit the luxury liner and started working on Hyatt Regency London where he further furnished his cooking skills working with the best chef at that time. After a while, he also decided to quit the hotel and started his own business.

The Bridge is Ahmad’s own creation. It presents various culinary dishes created by Ahmad. The Bridge features a fusion of the western and eastern style of cooking. In fact, it is so famous that it made the list of The Michelin Guides and was dubbed the as The Best Culinary Experience for 3 consecutive years from 2007 to 2009. It was also in The Bridge that he met his partner, Bridgette Farthing. Ms. Farthing happens to be one of the writers of Lifestyle Magazine.

Ahmad Khawaja is now focusing on his restaurant and always thinking of better ideas to improve its food. Also, he has his own cooking show shown in BBC every Wednesday night known as The Quest for Food. His show is all about his quest in finding the right taste that would complement any kind of food.
